Lead State Tax Accountant

Lewis James Professional is a woman-owned staff augmentation, project consulting and direct hire search and placement firm. We are currently seeking a Lead State Tax Accountant for a direct hire opportunity with a financial services client.

Responsibilities:

• The Lead State Tax Accountant will ensure compliance with state tax return requirements, including preparing workpapers, processing estimated payments, and assisting with audits and resolving tax notices.
• Clearly document tax positions through well-structured, thoughtful memorandums.
• Develop and refine policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the income tax return compliance process.
• The Lead State Tax Accountant will stay informed on tax regulations, compliance updates, and legislative changes, analyzing and documenting their impact on the bank.
• Conduct all responsibilities professionally, aligning with the bank’s culture and ethical standards.

Qualifications:

• Strong technical knowledge of tax regulations, compliance processes, and internal controls, with analytical expertise.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, maintaining a professional approach.
• High attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Proficiency in tax software, applications, and financial systems, including OneSource Income Tax and OneSource Tax Provision.
• Ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude in a dynamic and fast-changing environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree is a preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm, a corporate tax department of a publicly traded company, or a combination of both.
• Experience with OneSource Income Tax software is preferred.
• CPA certification or actively working toward CPA licensure.
