Job Description

A D.C. Law Firm is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join their team. The Litigation Paralegal will support the Firm’s healthcare attorneys by preparing and filing documents, conducting legal research, gathering and organizing relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation, organizing exhibits, maintaining and updating electronic databases, editing and formatting documents in Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable software applications, and assisting with other administrative tasks as assigned. This role will be in-office 5 days/week and may be able to move to hybrid after the employee has trained and incorporated into the Firm. The role is non-exempt.

This position is eligible for benefits, including subsidized health insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, paid time off, short- and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, 401k plan, and profit sharing. The benefits are subject to change at the discretion of the Firm’s management.

Salary: $70K-90K DOE

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and file pleadings, motions, briefs and other court documents
  • Prepare affidavits, contracts and legal opinions
  • Prepare table of authorities
  • Prepare exhibits using Bates numbering
  • Maintain and retrieve case files and case related documents
  • Cite Checking
  • Update and maintain internal electronic databases
  • Conduct legal research
  • Summarize depositions and other evidence
  • Organize relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation
  • Prepare and organize exhibits
  • Ensure proper indexing and filing of legal documents
  • Track court deadlines and filings
  • Prepare for depositions, mediations, and arbitrations
  • Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other parties as necessary
  • Structure, format and proofread documents, including invoices, contracts, proposals and large agreements with tables of contents and section-specific cross-references
  • Administrative tasks as directed including time entry, scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Paralegal
  • Minimum 2+ years of litigation
  • Supreme Court filing experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • Must be able to work accurately and timely under pressure and deadlines, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and tasks
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Professional; relevant certifications preferred
  • Must have resourceful legal research and analytical skills with the ability to collect and synthesize complex or diverse information
  • Must have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents written in English. Must have ability to effectively present information, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to synthesize complex or diverse information. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Must have a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook. Must be willing and able to learn new technologies and software applications with minimal guidance. Must have functional knowledge of the internet and browsers.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree; or certificate in paralegal studies or other appropriate field
  • Experience with legal research sites such as Westlaw
  • State, federal and Supreme Court filing experience
  • Cite Checking experience
