Job Description

C.H. Robinson is seeking a 1st Shift Area Manager to oversee the shipping department at our 400,000-square-foot Carson, CA distribution center. As an Area Manager, you will supervise all day-to-day functions of the shipping department's warehouse operations, maintaining optimum productivity levels and cost of services provided to our branch customers.

Responsibilities:

The duties and responsibilities of this position consists of, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Promote and educate Distribution Center staff on the Distribution Center Model vision, guiding principles, and strategy
  • Develop and maintain expertise in fresh supply inventory, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing productivity
  • Establish and maintain metrics for evaluating operational and economic performance in shipping
  • Ensure timely product delivery in line with quality, condition, and food safety protocols while overseeing the procurement of essential supplies, packaging, and raw materials
  • Operate cost-consciously to achieve budget objectives
  • Review equipment preventative maintenance schedules and work orders
  • Reinforce a culture of safety throughout the facility ensuring safety and sanitation schedules comply with HAACP, OSHA, and Primus Inspection Standards
  • Work with leadership to develop and execute standard operating procedures, conducting gap analysis as needed
  • Identify and address areas for improvement by making recommendations and implementing approved changes, utilizing root-cause problem-solving techniques to drive process improvement
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment while driving a culture of open communication and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to talent recruitment, selection, promotion, and development, supporting employees in achieving their career goals aligned with individual and organizational objectives
  • Define and implement employee role accountabilities and expectations, manage performance, and provide coaching and mentoring to foster growth

Required Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a warehouse, distribution center, and/or manufacturing operations environment
  • Knowledge of efficient and safe warehousing practices
  • Basic computer skills
  • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50lbs
  • Applicants in a warehouse role must complete a pre-employment drug screen as part of a conditional job offer

Preferred Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate information and/or instructions
  • Delivers detail oriented, accurate and organized results under pressure
  • Demonstrates the desire to operate in an entrepreneurial, multi-task environment

Compensation Range
$49,000.00 - $101,900.00
